My first and most important resource for math planning is the Ontario Math Curriculum. All of my planning is based on how I can help my students to meet the big ideas from the curriculum document. (I think that in the States this is called "Standards-based math")
I use the following resources to help me plan and teach the curriculum:
- A Guide to Effective Instruction in Math (ministry document)
- Pearson's Mathematics Makes Sense. Our board purchased this math program for all grades. The grade one program comes with a teacher guide, a big book and a variety of leveled math readers. We are expected to use this as a resource, rather than to follow it lesson by lesson.
- About Teaching Mathematics: a K-8 Resource by Marilyn Burns (professional book published by Math Solutions)
- Teaching Student-Centered Mathematics K-3 by John Van de Walle (professional book published by Allyn and Bacon)
- Math Their Way Summary Newsletter - a very detailed online "textbook" describing the use of math tubs to organize math instruction
- Public Schools of North Carolina's Week-by-Week Essentials - great source of printable games, problems to solve, mental math, etc
I also use these websites full of great ideas:
- My Montessori Journey
- The School Bell Number Family Tubs
- Mandy Gregory's Guided Math
- Kelly's Kindergarten
- Marcia Cook's Tiling Task Cards
- Montgomery County Public Schools' Math Labs
- Dr. Mike's Math Games for Kids
- Mathwire
- Jessica Meacham's Math Tubs
- Hubbard's Cupboard
- Jennifer Bond's Math Workshop
- Beth Newingham's Math Workshop
